Spanish Official Says 2 Captured Pirate Suspects To Be Brought To Madrid Over Trawler Hijack

(AP) A Spanish official says two men captured in connection with the hijacking of a Spanish tuna boat in the Indian Ocean will be brought to Madrid on orders from a judge.

The official in the Defense Ministry says the two suspects will be transported to Madrid as soon as possible. They face preliminary charges of kidnapping and theft.

The official spoke to the Associated Press on Tuesday on condition of anonymity in line with ministry rules.

The trawler Alakrana with a crew of 36 remains under the control of pirates. It was seized Friday in international waters.

Spanish naval forces taking part in an EU anti-piracy flotilla captured two pirates as they left the trawler in a skiff bound for the Somali coast.
